A Big Lesson From a Little Friend

Recently my days have become incredibly busy. It seems busier than usual. So many things just keep piling and piling on top of my list. I’m not complaining. All of the things on my list are important and I am happy to help or to take care of them. It’s just that everything is happening all at once such as , the water tank and pressure tank just broke ( it supplies all the water to the house), hot water heater is leaking , my miracle goat “Onyx” ( who recently came back from the brink of death) is still weak and cannot walk , so she needs daily care ( I’m giving her “ therapy “ everyday to re – teach her to walk).  My mom is recovering from shoulder surgery and needs extra help , my fish pumps stopped working  and I have lost a lot of tilapia ( they run my aquaponics systems) . My little pig scratched herself against a rock  and now she has a big “ gash” on her side that needs daily treatment , my chicken got his head stuck inside a plastic “ milk crate “ used for nesting boxes , the air conditioner in the car broke, my mom’s toilet  broke ( the flushing handle part) , my kitchen sink started leaking , etc .  I could actually go on and on. This is just a portion of the list . I have steadily been trying to work on all of these things everyday and some days it feels like I’m barely keeping my head above water . Each day at least 2 or 3 more things are added to my list that need my help. This is all in addition to my average daily list ie., laundry, bills, grocery shopping , feeding animals, etc.

I found myself trying to go faster and faster  from one item to the other on my very long  “ to do “ list . Sometimes it literally feels like there is not even one more minute extra in the day for anything else. Then I noticed something just out of the corner of my eye. As I got in my car to go do my “ 101” errands , I noticed a small gecko on my side mirror. I didn’t think anything except that he was cute and I hoped  that he would get off of the car safely. Then I went to the “ drive thru” to get lunch and I saw him again. I was amazed that he was still there and had not  fallen off. I had just driven 55 mph on the highway to get to this drive thru restaurant. It was just a fleeting thought . I was very distracted with my “to do “ list .

I headed to my next destination and as I was driving on the highway , I saw something again out of the corner of my eye near my side mirror. I could not believe what I saw! That little gecko was between my side mirror and my car door and he was just sitting there, even as I was driving 55 mph. He was very comfortable not shaking  or even getting blown away. He had somehow found a “ safe spot” in a place that could have been so rough and turbulent and stressful.  If he had been in any other position on my car he would have surely felt the effects of the pressure coming at him from all sides which could become quite overwhelming.  I was then “prompted “ or “ reminded” that this little gecko’s situation is much like each of us . We can all find ourselves in very overwhelming and stressful situations where we feel “ pressure from all sides” just from day to day life  situations, from others, and especially from ourselves. The “ safe spot” that the gecko found reminds me of being under God’s wings. I realized as I was looking at this gecko that it was a message to me. I watched him step right into a place where he was safe and untouched from the “ storm” and he could ride  comfortably on the outside of my car at any speed. I thought of Psalms 91:4  “ He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge”. This little gecko was used to reach and teach me something so important today. I am thankful . I decided to name this little fellow ” Joseph ” because he stayed close to God too despite what was going on around him.

  1. I needed this today – we have been having storms all around for several weeks, and of course, I am way behind with my tax work. Thank you for this!

  2. Yes Kim! This brought me peace and a good sigh! Life gets so hectic, it’s hard to find peace. What a perfect example of a simple truth! We all have a safe spot and we need to move into it purposefully and experience God’s calm as we maneuver the storms of life.

  3. Your appreciation for the gecko and the message offered is testimony that you are tuned in. One step at a with peace in your ❤️

  4. You’re so insightful!! To find a tiny little Joseph with a Most high reminder of that sweet spot that God has provided for those who would choose patience and calm thinking in the midst of a chaotic world is mind blowing!! I love it!!

  5. Thanks for sharing as we continue to grow in HIM and not the world where the fallen spirits linger. Most important is you know when all is falling, the inner Peace, which is HIS, prevails!
