My Boy Bart

I have this cute not -so -little pink boy pig named Bart. He loves me and I love him. I know his love for me is pure and he truly sees me as his “ one and only” .  Whenever he sees me ,he will stop what he is doing and will run full force towards me . Then he drops to his side in hopes of getting a belly rub. Today Bart did something that I think is truly a miracle. Bart lives in a fenced in one acre parcel with my other handicapped pig Ester and my fourteen miniature goats. This morning three stray dogs broke into this area and tried to kill them all. Bart immediately sprung into action. He chased all three dogs down and they had some physical interaction. The dogs left the property running and crying and whimpering  for their lives. None of my little ones were hurt or killed including Bart. The dogs had minor injuries , but I believe they will think twice before ever coming back.

Bart stepped up for me and for all of his little friends. I would never have thought that he would think to do this. I know big wild pigs will attempt  to fight hunting dogs, but Bart is a very chubby pot bellied pig who really can’t even run very fast. After the dogs ran away, I went inside to see Bart. I sat down next to him and I gave him his favorite belly rub. As I did this , all the other goats and my pig Ester walked up and surrounded us . I quickly began to think of how we can all find ourselves in life’s situations that make us feel under attack, overwhelmed , unprepared, vulnerable, and maybe even alone. Sometimes, when we least expect it , someone will step up for us and shield us, and love us , protect us ,and even fight for us. And just maybe we can hear the “ prompting” or “ gut feeling” to do the same for others, if we will really “ look “ and “ listen” . We all are truly here to help each other through this thing called life. As I rubbed Bart’s belly ,I said to him “ I really love you my boy Bart!” . Then he sat up , looked me in the eyes ,and rubbed his slippery snout against the back of my hand. My heart was so thankful for that moment . I could have so easily missed it. I hope to continue to see more of these miracle moments .

  1. What a frightening experience!! So grateful for Bart!! When you think of what could have happened it becomes even more miraculous!! And yes, clearly he sers you as his “source” of love. That is so adorable that he runs headlong toward you and then suddenly drops for a belly rub. So precious. Thank you for sharing!
