BRAVERY

This mama hen just witnessed her sister’s demise from the neighbor’s dog, and yet she is carrying on with life and with her responsibilities of her newborn chicks. She knows of the many dangers all around her, but that hasn’t stopped her. She is doing the best she can at the moment. As I stood there watching her , I had a “ prompting” . There are so many of us who have witnessed or experienced horrific things such as  accidents, watching a loved one die slowly from an illness, all types of abuse, bullying, loneliness, abandonment, pain , or even life’s many types of stress. This list can go on and on. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting out of bed and continuing on with life. This new mother hen has no idea how she has inspired me. She has reminded me that we can hide away from the pain or from the world, or ……we can get up , get out of bed, and step outside … and take chances. If we are still alive and breathing, then we all have great purpose here. This  brave chicken has reminded me and has shown this very thing  to me. I could have so easily walked right past her and missed it. I am so thankful, and maybe , just maybe it was meant for someone else too.

  1. Such a precious photograph…did you take it? You are right about bravery. We do have to keep on keeping on don’t we? Your blog goes a long way toward assuring people it is worth it. And sometimes it is an actual act of bravery. Thousands of people have lost loved ones due to Covid, for example. It is hard to imagine going on without them. But people do go on because they must. And yes, just getting out of bed can seem to be too much some days. But humans are innately brave I think. And if it is too hard, we have our animal friends to show us how, right?
